Faced with an ever increasing muckheap, and seemingly spending forever attempting to, seruptitiously, burn it away whenever the weather is favourable, which isn't often, I decided the only option left open to avoid paying a bandit/farmer to take it away, was to remove it myself. This required of me to purchase a loader/digger, of a MF variety.
I bought it on fleabay, sight unseen, from a vendor "darn sarf" near Sanstead airport. Had I realised the cost of transportation, I probably wouldn't have bothered, but I'm glad that I did. As it transpires that these machines are well rated by they who know.
Although in need of some TLC, "Fergie" has a good Perkins 4.212 engine and good hydraulics. Initially I had needed to jump start it from the FFR (24 volts), as none of my spare batteries were holding enough charge to do the job. This made using it a real PITA. I have since stripped and dressed the starter motor, and fitted a shiney new battery. This allows it to be started on its own juice, and once I have refitted the starter switch, I'll be able to hop in and fire it up with the key.
The 50B came sans digger bucket, but I have been able to source 24", 18" & 12" buckets. The 24 has been modified to fit the back actuator arm, the 18" is due to be modified soon and the 12" will also need modifying, once it has been delivered from Devon.
The plan was to expose the good rotted shite from the muckheap, which could then be then be cut and dried, much the same way as peat is processed. This "Stinky-Peat" could then be burnt in solid fuel systems, and if it proves viable, which I believe it will, could then be used to provide hot water and heating. The ash from burning can then be spread as fertiliser on the fields. However, as the muckheap had grown so big, and the lack of time to do much more than shift the shite to another location, the "eco/bio-fuel" experiment must wait until it is more convienient.
Fergie will also be put to good use landscaping the posh garden/suntrappe, behind the BIG shed. And, of course, digging those essential holes and trenches around the property.
I need to replace the missing windows and door, ready for the foul weather, also rearview mirrors and worklights need attention. as does the charging system.
